Enforcing the Proper Code of Conduct
Course length
8
About the course
Promoting a code of conduct and adherence to professional standards in a correctional setting is a challenge for the correctional worker and supervisors. Too frequently, we in the field read about and hear of staff that has not performed in ways that are proper, moral, and have done the “wrong things.”
Staff is disciplined, demoted, suspended, or fired; inmates escape or commit crimes, and the workers doing
a good job have to “pick up the slack.” This seminar will explore the challenge of promoting and keeping
staff on the right side of the ethical fence by doing the “right thing.” This is more than an ethics class-it is
a frank, open and clear exploration of how some jail staff have lost their careers.
